The first roll of film I ever shot. Since there are not many places to develop film up north, and I was living full-time at school after Christmas, I ended up leaving this roll sitting in my room for about two years before having the chance to develop it.
My university created a film club, with the dark room being a small storage closet in the material shop. I decided to develop this roll on my own with no past experience. Since in the closet there was a red light, I thought it was totallty fine to have it on while craking open the canister and transfering it to the tank. Turns out, no, it is called a dark room for a reason.
I brought the film in a cardboard box to a place in Toronto to get it scanned, and to my surprise, they came out red. Even with this mistake, this roll holds a special place in my heart. The red light gave the roll a sort of nostalgic quality, and allows me to have a good chuckle when thinking back to the experience. The creative process is more fun when learning and growing, and most importantly when you push yourself into the unknown.
